Responsibilities & Context:POSITION OVERVIEWThe Head of the General Education Department will provide strategic leadership and academic oversight for the General Education program. This individual will ensure that the curriculum aligns with the university's mission, supports interdisciplinary learning, and prepares students with essential skills for lifelong success. The ideal candidate will be an experienced academic leader with a strong background in liberal arts education, curriculum development, and faculty mentorship.REPORTINGThe Head of the General Education Department will report to the Vice-Chancellor.MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIESAcademic Leadership & Curriculum DevelopmentLead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the General Education curriculum.Ensure that courses reflect a balance of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and interdisciplinary studies.Collaborate with faculty to enhance teaching methodologies and incorporate innovative, student-centered learning approaches.Promote the integration of global perspectives, ethics, and critical thinking in the curriculum.Faculty Development & MentorshipRecruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty members teaching in the General Education program.Facilitate faculty development workshops and interdisciplinary collaborations.Foster a culture of excellence in teaching, research, and service within the department.Student Engagement & Learning OutcomesMonitor student progress and ensure the General Education program meets learning outcomes.Promote experiential learning, community engagement, and service-learning opportunities.Work with student advisors to provide academic guidance and support.Administration & Institutional CollaborationOversee course scheduling, program assessment, and accreditation requirements.Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth integration of General Education courses into major programs.Liaise with university leadership to align the program with institutional goals.Research & Thought LeadershipStay updated with global trends in liberal arts education and curriculum innovation.Represent the department in academic conferences, policy discussions, and public outreach initiatives.Encourage faculty and student research in interdisciplinary and foundational studies.Additional Job Requirements:QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATIONPh.D. in a relevant field within the liberal arts, humanities, social sciences or interdisciplinary studies.EXPERIENCEMinimum of 8-10 years of experience in higher education, with at least 3-5 years in an academic leadership role.Experience in a liberal arts institution in South Asia or familiarity with the regional higher education landscape.Strong track record in curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and program assessment.Experience in working with diverse student populations and fostering an inclusive learning environment.RESEARCHAt least 12 (for professors) or 8 (for associate professors) publications in the indexed journals. Publications with international co-authors will be an added qualification.OTHER REQUIREMENTSExcellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.Knowledge of accreditation standards and quality assurance processes in higher education.INDUSTRY EXPERIENCEApplicants with relevant experience in industry and consultancy will be preferred.AGEPreferably under 55 years; but may be relaxed for deserving candidates.Company Information:Education
