- An Assistant Vessel Operations Manager typically oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations of assigned vessels, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently. This role involves a mix of operational oversight, personnel management, and compliance with regulations. Key responsibilities include coordinating with various stakeholders like port authorities and agents, managing vessel schedules and cargo operations, and ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards.
- Operational Management:
- Supervising vessel loading and discharge operations, often aligning with stow plans.
- Coordinating with port authorities, shipping agents, and internal teams.
- Monitoring vessel performance, productivity, and KPIs.
- Ensuring equipment availability and operational readiness.
- Managing cargo operations and documentation.
- Optimizing fuel consumption and voyage planning.
- Personnel Management:
- Overseeing labor allocation, shift management, and payroll accuracy.
- Supervising and supporting vessel operations staff.
- Enforcing company policies and procedures.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations and company standards.
- Implementing and monitoring safety and risk prevention protocols.
- Investigating safety incidents and recommending corrective actions.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Maintaining accurate documentation and records.
- Providing regular reports on vessel operations and performance.
- Communicating effectively with various stakeholders, including mechanics, clerks, and other managers.
- Problem-Solving:
- Making real-time operational decisions to improve efficiency and resolve issues.
- Responding to operational emergencies and incidents.
- Resolving charter party and bill of lading disputes.
- Financial Management:
- Managing laytime statements and negotiating demurrage, detention, and dispatch.
- Managing freight payments and demurrage/detention if any.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Monitoring vessel schedules and ETA notices.
- Coordinating crew changes and logistics support.
- Collaborating with technical and commercial teams.
- Conducting operational audits and reviews.
- Assisting in developing and maintaining operational guidelines.
- Diploma in Marine Engineering in Marine Engineering
- Diploma in Mechanical in Mechanical Engineering
- At least 5 years
