Responsibilities & Context:Job Purpose: To assist in carrying out qualitative implementation research on the social and implementation dimensions of the introduction of a point-of-care test (POCT) for detecting methanol poisoning in Bangladesh. This work will be carried out as part of the UK NIHR RIGHT4 project entitled, “Preventing Deaths from Acute Poisoning in Low- and Middle-Income Countries” ( ) led by the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, United Kingdom.Main responsibilities:Support collection of qualitative data, including through interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and participant observation (30%)Oversee and undertake transcription of audio to text of interviews and FGDs in Bangla (15%)Oversee and undertake translation of Bangla transcriptions of interviews and FGDs into English. (15%)Contribute to cleaning, managing and coding qualitative data set. (30%)Contribute to the overall project activities (event organising, organisation of data collection, participating in project meetings etc.). (10%)Education Requirements:
  • Masters
Essential: Master's degree (or equivalent) in a social science discipline or public health, either awarded or submitted within three months of the application date.Desirable: (i) Degree (first or master's) in social or medical anthropology, (ii) Training in research design.Experience:
  • At least 1 years

Additional Job Requirements:Knowledge & ExperienceEssential
  • Experience in qualitative data generation, management and analysis
  • Experience carrying out research in the Bangladeshi health system.
  • Strong working command of English.
  • Experience in transcription (Bangla audio to text)
  • Experience in translation (Bangla to English)
  • Excellent IT skills (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work independently but also as a member of a team, to work on own initiative and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including team working and a collaborative, collegiate approach, and the ability to establish and maintain personal working relationships with colleagues.
Desirable
  • Understanding of project implementation and implementation research
  • Experience in carrying out implementation research involving a qualitative component.
  • Experience working on health- and/or toxicology-related topics.
  • Experience of using qualitative data analysis software (e.g. NVivo, AtlasTI).
